Activity Report: C3 Commission on Statistical Physics

The Commission works on a three years cycle, and last year was the busiest of the three.

The Commission has been engaged in the organization of the STATPHYS 23 conference which will take place in Genova, Italy in July 2007. This is a type A conference which is expected to attract over 1000 scientists and it is held once every three years. A Steering Committee for the conference has been set up by the C3 Commission. The Steering Committee has met in Rome in June, 2006 and decided on the scientific aspects of the conference (structure, invited and plenary speakers etc).

A Call for Nominations for the Boltzmann Award has been distributed. The call has resulted in a large number of nominations (38). The voting process is now under way. The Boltzmann Award will be presented during the STATPHYS 23 conference.

The Commission has decided to go ahead with the Young Scientist Award. A Call for Nominations has been distributed in September 2006 with a deadline of December 31 st, 2006. The award (or awards) will be presented during the STATPHYS 23 conference.
